Bail FAQs
The Huntington Beach City Jail is at 2000 Main St, Huntington Beach, CA 92648, inside the Main Street civic center alongside police headquarters. It is one of the more substantial municipal jails in Orange County and is operated by the Huntington Beach Police Department, not by the Sheriff.
Huntington Beach polices itself, and the jail exists because of that. Arrests made in the city — including the downtown and pier area on summer weekends, which drives real volume — are booked here rather than driven inland first.
The facility also books arrests made by neighboring Seal Beach. Seal Beach is a smaller coastal city we cover but do not maintain a dedicated city page for; that is worth stating plainly rather than pretending otherwise, because it changes where a Seal Beach family should call and drive.
Custody here is short term. Without a bond, a defendant is transported to court or transferred into county custody at the Sheriff's intake and release complex in Santa Ana, where the release queue is far longer.

Visiting runs on a scheduled, restricted calendar. Bail posting at the Huntington Beach City Jail does not — a bond can be accepted at any hour of any day.
| Bail bonds accepted | 24 hours a day, 7 days a week |
|---|---|
| Booking / intake | Continuous — HBPD and Seal Beach arrests booked on site |
| Visiting | Scheduled and limited — confirm with the jail before traveling |
| Jail phone | (714) 536-5691 |
| Midnight Bail Bonds | Open 24 hours, every day |
Confirm custody location before driving. A Seal Beach arrest is not held in Seal Beach, and a Huntington Beach arrest may already have moved to Santa Ana.
Weekend volume in the downtown and pier area is real. Intake queues here run longer on summer Friday and Saturday nights than they do midweek.
Visiting is limited, as at any short-term municipal facility. Bail posting is not — the counter is staffed around the clock.
Court hours are a separate clock. The West Justice Center in Westminster keeps a weekday calendar; bonds are written at any hour.

How a west county arrest moves through Main Street.
Huntington Beach books its own arrests, and Seal Beach arrests are also brought to this facility rather than to a county intake center.
Property, fingerprints, warrant checks, and medical screening. Nobody is released mid-intake, however fast a bond is arranged.
Orange County sets bail at booking under the 2026 Uniform Bail Schedule adopted pursuant to Penal Code §1269b(c) — before any judge is involved.
The fastest outcome in west county. A bond accepted here ends custody here, before any inland transfer.
Without a bond, custody moves to the Sheriff's Flower Street intake and release complex, with longer holds potentially housed at Theo Lacy.
In-custody defendants are transported to the West Justice Center in Westminster. Release after transfer runs on the county's schedule.
Premium on a California bail bond is set by the rate filed with the Department of Insurance under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, the starting figure comes from the Orange County 2026 Uniform Bail Schedule (effective January 1, 2026), and review or reduction runs under Penal Code §1270.1.
Bail on a scheduled charge is set at booking, so a bond posts without waiting for court to open — and at a city jail that is the difference between a few hours and most of a day.
The amount comes from the Orange County 2026 Uniform Bail Schedule, adopted by the Superior Court under Penal Code §1269b(c). Countywide zero-bail has been rescinded in Orange County; the schedule governs. A judge may deviate at arraignment under Penal Code §1275, weighing public safety, the seriousness of the offense, and the defendant's record and likelihood of appearing.
On violent and serious felonies and a specific statutory list, Penal Code §1270.1 blocks release on any amount other than the scheduled figure until a hearing in open court.
In re Humphrey (2021) 11 Cal.5th 135 requires courts to consider ability to pay and non-financial conditions before setting money bail a defendant cannot afford. That review happens in Westminster at the hearing, not at this counter.
Give us a full legal name and date of birth. We confirm whether the person is still on Main Street or already inland, verify the amount, and post at any hour. 10% premium, 1% down on approved credit.
A bond written at Huntington Beach City Jail stays live through every appearance until the case resolves. A missed date can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day, with a limited statutory window to bring the defendant back before the forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner. Failure to appear bail bonds →
From this jail, court is inland and slightly north — Westminster, not Newport Beach. That is a designation question, not a distance question, and it is worth verifying rather than assuming.
