Bail FAQs
The Santa Ana City Jail is at 62 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, CA 92701, inside the Santa Ana Police Department headquarters. It is a municipal Type I facility, operated by the city, holding people short term after a Santa Ana PD arrest.
Read this part twice. There are two jails in Santa Ana. This one is the city's. The other — the OC Central Men's & Women's Jail at 550 N Flower Street — is the Orange County Sheriff's Department's main intake and release complex for the entire county. They are within walking distance of each other and they are not interchangeable: different agency, different phone number, different release desk, different queue.
Because the county's central complex is in the same city, Santa Ana bookings can move between the two quickly. A defendant booked at Civic Center Plaza tonight can be in county custody on Flower Street by morning, which changes both where a bond is posted and where the person is picked up.
Nothing about the case is decided in this building. Bail comes from the county schedule and the hearing happens at the Central Justice Center across the civic center plaza.

Visiting runs on a scheduled, restricted calendar. Bail posting at the Santa Ana City Jail does not — a bond can be accepted at any hour of any day.

Before driving anywhere, confirm the building. Families routinely arrive at Flower Street for someone held at Civic Center Plaza, or the reverse, and lose half a day to it.
Transfer timing drives everything here. Once custody moves to the county complex, the release point moves with it.
Visiting at a city jail is limited by design — these are short-term holding facilities, not housing facilities. Bail posting has no such limit.
Court hours are a separate clock again. The Central Justice Center runs a weekday calendar; bonds are written at any hour.

How a Santa Ana Police arrest moves through the civic center — and out of it.
Santa Ana runs its own independent department. An arrest inside city limits is booked by the city first rather than being driven to a Sheriff's facility.
Property, fingerprints, warrant checks, and medical screening. Nobody is released mid-intake regardless of how fast the paperwork moves outside.
Orange County sets bail at booking under the 2026 Uniform Bail Schedule adopted pursuant to Penal Code §1269b(c) — before any court appearance.
A bond accepted here ends custody here. This is the shortest path available in Santa Ana and it closes when the transfer happens.
If no bond posts, custody typically moves a few blocks to the Sheriff's Central Men's & Women's Jail at 550 N Flower Street, where the county booking record governs.
Defendants are transported to the Central Justice Center, or arraigned in Department CJ1 inside the Flower Street complex. Release after transfer runs on the county's queue.
Premium on a California bail bond is set by the rate filed with the Department of Insurance under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, the starting figure comes from the Orange County 2026 Uniform Bail Schedule (effective January 1, 2026), and review or reduction runs under Penal Code §1270.1.
Bail on a scheduled charge is set at booking, so a bond posts without waiting for a courtroom. In Santa Ana the practical question is simply which counter it posts at.
The amount comes from the Orange County 2026 Uniform Bail Schedule, adopted by the Superior Court under Penal Code §1269b(c). Countywide zero-bail has been rescinded in Orange County; the schedule governs. A judge may deviate at arraignment under Penal Code §1275, weighing public safety, the seriousness of the offense, and the defendant's record and likelihood of appearing.
On violent and serious felonies and a defined statutory list, Penal Code §1270.1 blocks release on any amount other than the scheduled figure until a hearing in open court.
In re Humphrey (2021) 11 Cal.5th 135 requires courts to consider ability to pay and non-financial conditions before setting money bail a defendant cannot afford — at the hearing, not at the jail counter.
Give us a full legal name and date of birth. We confirm which of the two Santa Ana facilities has the person, verify the amount, and post at any hour. 10% premium, 1% down on approved credit.
A bond written at Santa Ana City Jail stays live through every appearance until the case resolves. A missed date can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day, with a limited statutory window to bring the defendant back before the forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner. From this jail, court is a walk rather than a drive — which is exactly why the paperwork has to be read carefully before anyone sets out.

The same civic center as this jail. Santa Ana criminal matters are arraigned and tried here, and an out-of-custody defendant simply walks over on the hearing date.
