The Betty Lou Lamoreaux Justice Center sits at 341 The City Drive South in the city of Orange, in the civic cluster near the UCI Medical Center rather than the Santa Ana civic center where the criminal courts are. It is the county's dedicated juvenile and family law courthouse: delinquency and dependency petitions, custody and support, and domestic violence restraining orders.
No adult criminal bail work happens at this address. If someone in your family has been arrested and you are trying to find where bail is set and posted, you are at the wrong building. Adult criminal matters route to the Central Justice Center at 700 Civic Center Drive West, about four miles south in Santa Ana, and the bond is posted at the Intake Release Center on Flower Street. Both buildings are in the same general Santa Ana–Orange cluster, which is exactly why people mix them up.
Juvenile detention is not a bail question at all. There is no schedule amount for a minor, no ten percent premium, and no bond to post. A judge decides at a detention hearing whether a minor stays in juvenile hall or goes home. We say that plainly because families arrive here expecting the adult mechanics they have read about, and there is nothing for a bail agent to do on the juvenile side of the calendar.
Two on-site resources are worth knowing about if you are navigating a family matter alongside a criminal case. The Self-Help Center assists self-represented parties with family law and restraining order paperwork and procedure. Family Court Services handles custody and visitation mediation. Neither is a law firm and neither will represent you, but for a household already paying for a defense attorney on the criminal side, free procedural help on the family side is genuinely useful.
Where our work touches this building is attendance. A parent held at the Central Jail Complex in Santa Ana or at the Theo Lacy Facility next door cannot appear at a dependency or custody hearing here, and absence carries weight in those proceedings. Posting the adult bond is what puts a parent in the room. That is the whole of our role at Lamoreaux, and we would rather state it than invent one.
