Bail FAQs
North Justice Center sits at 1275 North Berkeley Avenue in Fullerton, and it is the criminal and traffic courthouse for the top of the county. Under the Superior Court's Court Designation List effective June 30, 2025, Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, La Palma, Placentia, and Yorba Linda all file criminal and traffic here. Limited civil and small claims matters are also heard at this location.
North county is the part of Orange County with the densest concentration of independent municipal police departments — Fullerton on Commonwealth Avenue, Anaheim with its own Type I detention facility on Harbor Boulevard, Brea, Buena Park, Placentia, La Habra. That matters for bail because the first hours of custody happen in a city building, not a county one, and a bond posted before the county transfer can end the matter without a Santa Ana intake at all.
Yorba Linda is the exception on that list and worth naming. It has no municipal police department; the Orange County Sheriff's Department has policed it under contract since January 2013, operating as Yorba Linda Police Services. A Yorba Linda arrest is a Sheriff's arrest that books straight into the county system — but the case is still designated to this courthouse.
A related-but-distinct note, because families conflate them: Tustin's criminal cases are designated to Central Justice Center, not here. What links Tustin to this region is the jail, not the court — Tustin transfers continuing holds into the county system, and Theo Lacy in Orange is a common landing spot, the same facility north county bookings feed. Same custody pipeline, different courthouse. Confirm the address on the notice before driving to Berkeley Avenue.

Court hours and jail release timing are two different clocks. North Justice Center runs on a weekday court calendar; the jail holding your family member runs 24 hours a day.
| Court calendar | Monday – Friday, excluding court holidays |
|---|---|
| General court information | (657) 622-6878 |
| Weekends & court holidays | Closed |
| County jail booking & release | 24 hours |
| Midnight Bail Bonds | Open 24 hours, 7 days a week |
Orange County Superior Court runs weekday calendars only. We publish the court's general information line rather than a counter-hours table, because posted hours change and the court's own listing is the authoritative source.
City jails and the county's Flower Street complex process bookings and releases around the clock. A bond accepted at 3 a.m. at Anaheim's detention facility or Fullerton PD is not waiting on the Fullerton courthouse to open.

What the Superior Court designates to the North Justice Center. Department numbers are assigned per case — always follow the department printed on your own paperwork.

Felony arraignments, preliminary hearings, and bail review motions under Penal Code §1270.1 and §1275. Felony trials are assigned by open trial courtroom availability countywide, so a trial can be moved to another justice center.
Traffic filings and trials for north county. Traffic payments and inquiries may be handled at any justice center with a criminal/traffic clerk's office. Unresolved citations here are a routine source of later bench warrants.
Limited civil matters are heard at this location as well as at Central. Civil filings are subject to the court's eFiling requirements.
Small claims hearings take place here, but the court processes all small claims filings for the county at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. Check where to file before driving.
Family law, domestic violence, and juvenile matters go to the Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange. Probate, mental health, and elder abuse restraining orders go to the Costa Mesa Justice Complex. Unlawful detainer and civil harassment go to Central.
Bail review and reduction motions in California run under Penal Code §1270.1, and the starting figure comes from the Orange County 2026 Uniform Bail Schedule (effective January 1, 2026).
Bail is posted at the facility holding the defendant, never at the courthouse counter. In north county the first stop is usually a city facility — the Anaheim Detention Facility on Harbor Boulevard, Fullerton PD on Commonwealth Avenue, or a Brea, Buena Park, Placentia, or La Habra department. Once the county takes custody, the answer becomes the Intake Release Center in Santa Ana or Theo Lacy in Orange.
The figure comes from the Orange County 2026 Uniform Bail Schedule, approved by the judges of this court under Penal Code §1269b(c) and effective January 1, 2026. Misdemeanors and infractions are scheduled. Felony bail is computed per case from the highest single count plus enhancements, and larceny and fraud offenses use the scheduled amount or the loss amount, whichever is higher.
The premium is 10% of the bail amount, filed with the California Department of Insurance under Insurance Code §1800 — the statutory rate at every licensed California agency. Our down payment starts as low as 1% on approved credit with the balance on a written plan.
Timing is the north county advantage. Because so many of these cities book in their own buildings before any county transfer, a bond posted quickly can end custody without the person ever reaching Santa Ana. Call before the transfer window closes rather than after.
Every bond we write is issued by a California Department of Insurance licensed bail agent under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, at the statutory 10% premium.
A missed appearance at North Justice Center can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day. There is a statutory window to bring the defendant back before forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner — call us immediately. Failure to appear bail bonds →
