Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center
Bail Bonds Guide

Glen Helen is the county's minimum-security, rehabilitation-focused campus — a different kind of facility from the three pre-trial jails. What that means for custody, transfers, and whether a bond applies at all.

Facility Overview

The Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center sits at 18000 Institution Road in Devore, in the hills at the mouth of the Cajon Pass north of San Bernardino. It is operated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and is the county's minimum-security campus.

Its character is genuinely different from the other three county facilities. West Valley, Central, and High Desert exist mainly to hold people awaiting arraignment and trial. Glen Helen exists mainly to house sentenced, low-classification defendants in programming, work assignments, and rehabilitative custody.

That distinction changes the practical question. At a pre-trial jail the question is "what is the bail and how fast can it post." At Glen Helen the first question is whether there is bail to post at all — a sentenced defendant has none, while someone here with a second, still-open case may have a scheduled amount that a bond can clear immediately.

People also arrive here by transfer rather than by patrol car. A booking that started at Central or West Valley can end up in Devore after classification, which is why confirming the current facility before anyone drives out Institution Road matters more here than almost anywhere else in the county.

Hours & Visiting

Visiting runs on a scheduled, restricted calendar. Bail posting at Glen Helen does not — a bond can be accepted at any hour of any day.

Bail bonds accepted24 hours a day, 7 days a week, where a bailable case exists
Facility phone(909) 473-3689
VisitingScheduled in advance; days and times set by the Sheriff's Department
Typical release processingHours after a bond is accepted, depending on facility workload
Midnight Bail BondsOpen 24 hours, every day

Visiting is scheduled and limited. Bail posting is not scheduled at all — a bond written at 3 a.m. is accepted the same as one written at noon.

Glen Helen runs lower intake churn than the pre-trial facilities, so discharge is less driven by booking volume and more by the paperwork on the specific case.

Before driving to Devore, confirm the custody is actually here. Transfers into and out of Glen Helen are common, and the campus is well off the freeway.

Court hours and jail hours are unrelated. The Justice Center keeps a weekday calendar; this facility handles releases around the clock.

Booking & Custody Process

How someone ends up in custody at Devore — usually by transfer, not by arrest.

01

Arrest Elsewhere

Almost no one is booked directly into Glen Helen. The arrest and the original booking happen at Central, West Valley, or a city police department.

02

Intake At A Pre-Trial Facility

Fingerprints, warrant checks, and medical screening run at the receiving jail. Bail, if the case is bailable, is set there from the county schedule.

03

Classification

The Sheriff's Department scores custody level. Minimum-security defendants — usually sentenced and non-violent — become candidates for Glen Helen.

04

Transfer To Devore

Transport moves custody out Institution Road. This is the step that changes the address a family has been driving to, and it happens without notice.

05

Programming Or Work Assignment

Housing here is built around rehabilitative programming and work rather than short-term holding, which is why the population turns over more slowly.

06

Release

Release comes at the end of a sentence, on a court order, or — where a separate case still carries bail — once that bond is accepted and processing clears.

How To Post Bail At Glen Helen

Premium on a California bail bond is set by the rate filed with the Department of Insurance under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, the starting figure comes from the San Bernardino County Felony and Misdemeanor Bail Schedule (effective January 1, 2026), and review or reduction runs under Penal Code §1270.1.

Bail is a pre-trial device. It secures appearance on a case that has not been resolved, which is why a defendant serving a sentence at Glen Helen has nothing to post. Call before you drive: we will tell you in a minute whether a bond is even the right tool.

Where a bailable case does exist, the amount comes from the San Bernardino County felony and misdemeanor bail schedule, adopted annually under Penal Code §1269b(c). A judge can deviate from it at arraignment under Penal Code §1275, weighing public safety, the seriousness of the offense, and the defendant's record and likelihood of appearing.

In re Humphrey (2021) 11 Cal.5th 135 requires courts to consider ability to pay and non-financial conditions before setting money bail a defendant cannot afford. That review happens at the hearing, not at the jail counter — until then, the scheduled amount is what the facility will accept.

Give us a full legal name and date of birth. We confirm the current facility and custody status, verify any amount, and post at any hour. 10% premium, 1% down on approved credit.

If A Court Date Is Missed After Release

A bond written at Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center stays live through every appearance until the case resolves. A missed date can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day, with a limited statutory window to bring the defendant back before the forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner.
