The Big Bear Jail is a Type I holding facility operated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department at the Big Bear Lake Patrol Station, 477 Summit Boulevard. Patrol and short-term custody share the same site — there is no separate jail building to look for.
A practical note on the address. The Sheriff's own facilities documentation lists only a post office box for this jail, which is fine for mail and useless for a family in a car. The station address on Summit Boulevard is the physical location, and it is the one to use.
Big Bear Lake sits at nearly 7,000 feet, forty-some winding miles from the valley floor by Highway 18 or Highway 330. The jail exists because hauling every arrest down that grade in real time is impractical, particularly in winter. It holds; it does not house.
That geography sets the clock. While custody stays on the mountain, a bond releases someone in Big Bear. Once a transfer to central county custody begins, the release happens in San Bernardino instead and the family drives the grade twice.

This is one of the smallest custody points in the county. Discharge is often fast, but only while the defendant is still here.
Winter matters. Chain controls and closures on Highways 18 and 330 change how long a transfer takes and how long it takes you to reach Summit Boulevard. Call before you leave the valley.
The Big Bear Courthouse on the same street keeps a weekday calendar and does not hear criminal matters. Do not plan a bail trip around court hours.

How To Post Bail At Big Bear
