Bail FAQs
The Barstow Jail is a Type I facility at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Barstow Station, 225 E Mountain View Street. The station was established in 1890, one of the oldest in the county, and its jurisdiction covers more than 9,200 square miles — the largest geographic patrol area in San Bernardino County.
Start with the distinction that trips up most families here. Barstow operates its own independent police department at 220 E Mountain View St, Suite B, a few doors from the Sheriff's station on the same street. Two agencies, two buildings, nearly the same address. Arrests inside city limits generally run through Barstow PD; arrests across the vast surrounding desert run through the Sheriff. Confirm which one before anyone drives.
Beyond the city, the Sheriff's Barstow/Trona territory reaches Baker, Yermo, Newberry Springs, Ludlow, Hinkley, and the Trona substation out toward Searles Valley. For an arrest anywhere in that expanse, this Mountain View Street building is the custody point.
Like every Type I jail, it holds rather than houses. Custody that outlasts a short hold moves southwest to the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, the pre-trial facility for the region. Posting before that move is the whole point.

Visiting runs on a scheduled, restricted calendar. Bail posting at Barstow Jail does not — a bond can be accepted at any hour of any day.

Office hours govern the front counter, not bail. Bonds are written and accepted around the clock.
Always confirm the agency first. Arriving at 225 when the booking is at 220 — or the reverse — is the most common wasted trip in this city.
If the hold has already moved, it has almost certainly moved to Adelanto. Check the High Desert Detention Center before driving anywhere else.
Court hours are irrelevant to posting bail here, and doubly so in Barstow, where the local courthouse does not hear criminal cases at all.

How a desert arrest becomes a Mountain View Street custody record.
Deputies work the unincorporated desert; Barstow PD works the city. The agency determines which of two neighboring Mountain View Street buildings holds the defendant.
For Sheriff arrests, custody comes to 225 E Mountain View. Distances out here are long — a booking from Baker or Trona can take a while to arrive.
Fingerprints, warrant checks, and screening run first. A booking still in intake cannot be released, regardless of the bond.
Bail on a scheduled charge is set at booking under the San Bernardino County felony and misdemeanor schedule (Penal Code §1269b(c)), well before the Victorville calendar sees the case.
Type I means short-term. Longer custody moves 35 miles down Interstate 15 to the High Desert Detention Center, which is also nearer the criminal courthouse.
Bond accepted, paperwork cleared, discharge on site. Confirm the location with us before starting the drive across the desert.
Premium on a California bail bond is set by the rate filed with the Department of Insurance under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, the starting figure comes from the San Bernardino County Felony and Misdemeanor Bail Schedule (effective January 1, 2026), and review or reduction runs under Penal Code §1270.1.
Bail on a scheduled charge is set at booking, so a bond posts in Barstow without waiting on a courtroom — which is just as well, because the courtroom that matters is in another city entirely.
The amount comes from the San Bernardino County felony and misdemeanor bail schedule, adopted annually under Penal Code §1269b(c). A judge can deviate from it at arraignment under Penal Code §1275, weighing public safety, the seriousness of the offense, and the defendant's record and likelihood of appearing.
In re Humphrey (2021) 11 Cal.5th 135 requires courts to consider ability to pay and non-financial conditions before setting money bail a defendant cannot afford. That review happens at the hearing, not at the jail counter — until then, the scheduled amount is what the facility will accept.
Give us a full legal name and date of birth. We identify the agency, confirm the facility, verify the amount, and post at any hour. 10% premium, 1% down on approved credit.
A bond written at Barstow Jail stays live through every appearance until the case resolves. A missed date can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day, with a limited statutory window to bring the defendant back before the forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner. Written from this jail's perspective: Barstow has a courthouse, and it will not hear the case. Say it plainly before someone plans a morning around the wrong building.
