Courthouse Overview

The Barstow Courthouse is located in the Law and Justice Center at 235 East Mountain View Street. It is the Superior Court's northern desert location, serving a stretch of county that runs from the 15/40 interchange out toward Baker, Yermo, Newberry Springs, and Fort Irwin.

Its function is narrow and worth stating plainly. Under the court's 2020 High Desert reorganization, this courthouse handles family law, child support, civil harassment, elder abuse, and name changes. Criminal matters are not heard here. If someone was arrested in Barstow, the case is calendared at the Victorville Courthouse at 14455 Civic Drive, roughly 35 miles south on the 15.

That is a genuine hardship, not a footnote. The court's published service area for the Victorville District explicitly includes Barstow, Daggett, Yermo, Hinkley, Lenwood, Newberry Springs, and Fort Irwin — communities that are an hour or more from the criminal courthouse in bad weather. Missing an appearance because of a drive turns into a bench warrant, and a bench warrant turns into new custody.

Barstow is still a real court town. It has its own building, its own drop box, its own self-help schedule, and a Law and Justice Center that anchors the desert's civic life. We just will not pretend a family law counter can solve a criminal custody problem.

Hours Of Operation

Court hours and jail release timing are two different clocks. Barstow Courthouse runs on a weekday court calendar; the jail holding your family member runs 24 hours a day.

Building hours8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday
Self-help / family law windowSecond floor, on the court's posted schedule
Drop box cutoff4:00 p.m. on court days
Weekends & court holidaysClosed
Midnight Bail BondsOpen 24 hours, 7 days a week

The Superior Court lists building hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding court holidays. Self-help assistance at this location operates from the second floor on the court's posted weekly schedule.

A drop box at the front entrance on Mountain View accepts properly completed documents, program completions, and fine payments by check or money order — no cash.

Because there is no custody calendar in this building, release timing has nothing to do with these hours. The facility holding the defendant controls that, and jails accept bonds around the clock.

Not Heard Here — Criminal and Bail

Arraignments, bail motions under Penal Code §1275, preliminary hearings, and trials go to the Victorville Courthouse, 14455 Civic Dr, (760) 245-6215.

How To Post Bail At Barstow Courthouse

Bail review and reduction motions in California run under Penal Code §1270.1, and the starting figure comes from the San Bernardino County Felony and Misdemeanor Bail Schedule (effective January 1, 2026).

There is no bail process in this building. No defendant is produced from custody here and no judge sets bail here.

For a Barstow arrest, the bond is posted at whichever facility is holding the defendant — the local Barstow holding facility in the first hours, or the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto once the county takes custody. The court date will be in Victorville.

The amount comes from the San Bernardino County Felony and Misdemeanor Bail Schedule adopted under Penal Code §1269b(c). A judge may raise or lower it under Penal Code §1275 after considering public safety, the seriousness of the offense, the defendant's record, and the probability of appearance, and In re Humphrey (2021) requires consideration of ability to pay and less restrictive alternatives before an amount is set that results in detention.

Out here, one phone call saves an eighty-mile round trip. Give us a name and date of birth; we confirm the facility and the amount before anyone starts the car. Premium is the statutory 10% filed with the California Department of Insurance.

Every bond we write is issued by a California Department of Insurance licensed bail agent under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, at the statutory 10% premium.

If A Court Date Here Is Missed

A missed appearance at Barstow Courthouse can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day. There is a statutory window to bring the defendant back before forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner — call us immediately. Failure to appear bail bonds →
