Bail Bonds Guide

The Fontana District is the West Valley probate courthouse and handles small claims, landlord/tenant, traffic, and civil harassment. Criminal matters — and therefore bail — are calendared elsewhere.

Courthouse Overview

The Fontana Courthouse sits at 17780 Arrow Boulevard, at the northeast corner of Arrow Highway and Alder Avenue. One address correction first, because it matters when you are driving to a hearing: the street is Arrow Boulevard. Arrowhead Avenue is in the city of San Bernardino, two cities east, and the two get mixed up constantly.

We checked the criminal question rather than assuming it. The Superior Court's current location listing for the Fontana District names five categories: small claims, landlord/tenant, probate, traffic, and civil harassment. Criminal does not appear on it. So while this building is a full working courthouse with a busy calendar, it is not the building where a Fontana arrest gets arraigned.

What Fontana is, definitively, is the probate courthouse for this side of the county. The court's own probate division states that decedents' estates, trusts, and conservatorships are filed and heard at the Fontana and Victorville Districts, and that CARE Act petitions are filed and heard at Fontana specifically. For Bloomington, Chino, Chino Hills, Colton, Fontana, and the surrounding zip codes, probate work comes here.

For criminal matters, the West Valley criminal calendar runs at the Rancho Cucamonga Courthouse and the county-seat calendar at the San Bernardino Justice Center. Which one applies depends on where the arrest happened and which district the case was filed in — read the district and department printed on your release paperwork rather than guessing.

Hours Of Operation

Court hours and jail release timing are two different clocks. Fontana Courthouse runs on a weekday court calendar; the jail holding your family member runs 24 hours a day.

Building hours8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday
Lobby doors open7:30 a.m.
Traffic & small claims windows8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Drop box cutoff4:00 p.m. on court days
Midnight Bail BondsOpen 24 hours, 7 days a week

The court publishes building hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with lobby doors opening at 7:30 a.m. Traffic infraction and small claims/landlord-tenant service run on the same 8:00 to 4:00 window.

A drop box at the front entrance accepts properly completed documents, program completion proofs, and fine payments by check or money order — no cash. Anything deposited before 4:00 p.m. is received that same date.

Court hours do not govern a jail release. Because there is no custody calendar here, release timing depends on the facility holding the defendant, and those accept bonds at any hour.

Parking And Directions

Directions below follow the court's own published route to the Fontana District. We do not invent access instructions.

From the I-10

Exit at Sierra Avenue and go north — turn right if heading west, left if heading east — to Arrow Highway. Turn right (east) on Arrow Highway to Alder Avenue. The courthouse is at the northeast corner.

Drop box

A drop box at the front entrance takes completed documents, program completions, and fine payments by check or money order. Deposits before 4:00 p.m. count for that court day.

Kiosks

The court operates self-service kiosks at the Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, and Victorville Districts for handling certain matters without a clerk window.

Security screening

Everyone entering passes through screening. Arrive early on probate calendar mornings — the filing windows here serve a large share of the West Valley.

Departments & Case Types

The case types the Superior Court lists at the Fontana District, plus the work that is heard somewhere else.

01

Probate — West Valley

Decedents' estates, trusts, guardianships, and conservatorships for the West Valley region. The court's probate division names Fontana and Victorville as the two filing and hearing locations.

02

CARE Act petitions

The court states that CARE Act proceedings — petitions seeking court-assisted mental health treatment — are filed and heard at the Fontana District.

03

Small Claims

Small claims filings and hearings, with a dedicated filing fax and email address published by the court for this location.

04

Landlord / Tenant

Unlawful detainer and landlord-tenant matters for the Fontana service area, listed separately from general civil.

05

Traffic and civil harassment

Traffic infractions and civil harassment restraining orders. An unresolved infraction is a common route to a bench warrant, which is where a traffic matter becomes a bail matter.

06

Not Heard Here — Criminal

Arraignments, bail motions under Penal Code §1275, preliminary hearings, and trials are not on this building's listed case types. Check your paperwork for the district — Rancho Cucamonga or the San Bernardino Justice Center.

How To Post Bail At Fontana Courthouse

Bail review and reduction motions in California run under Penal Code §1270.1, and the starting figure comes from the San Bernardino County Felony and Misdemeanor Bail Schedule (effective January 1, 2026).

No bail is set or posted at this courthouse. That is not a technicality about courthouse counters — this building simply does not carry a criminal calendar.

For a Fontana arrest, the bond goes to the facility holding the defendant. In the first hours that is usually the Fontana Municipal Detention Center run by the city's own police department; after transfer it is the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

The amount comes from the San Bernardino County Felony and Misdemeanor Bail Schedule adopted under Penal Code §1269b(c). A judge may raise or lower it under Penal Code §1275 after weighing public safety, offense seriousness, record, and probability of appearance, and In re Humphrey (2021) requires the court to consider ability to pay and less restrictive alternatives before setting an amount that results in detention.

Call us first with a name and date of birth. We confirm custody location and amount before anyone drives anywhere, and the premium is the statutory 10% filed with the California Department of Insurance.

Every bond we write is issued by a California Department of Insurance licensed bail agent under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, at the statutory 10% premium.

If A Court Date Here Is Missed

A missed appearance at Fontana Courthouse can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day. There is a statutory window to bring the defendant back before forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner — call us immediately. Failure to appear bail bonds →
