Facility Overview

Pitchess Detention Center sits at 29320 The Old Road in Castaic, off the 5 Freeway north of Santa Clarita. It is the Sheriff's Department's North County complex, and it exists so the northern half of Los Angeles County does not have to route every booking into the downtown jail system.

For families in the Santa Clarita Valley that is the practical fact that matters: a local arrest is far more likely to stay north than to end up on Bauchet Street. It also means the drive to a release is a freeway run up the 5 rather than a trip into the Civic Center.

Custody usually starts elsewhere. The Sheriff's station that made the arrest books the defendant and holds them while records clear, and bail posted in that window produces a station release. Once custody moves into the Castaic complex, the release happens there instead.

Nothing is adjudicated at Pitchess. In-custody defendants are transported to the courthouse handling the case and returned afterward, and a bond is accepted at the jail rather than at any court counter.

Hours & Visiting

Visiting runs on a scheduled, restricted calendar. Bail posting at Pitchess does not — a bond can be accepted at any hour of any day.

Bail bonds accepted24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Inmate information lineAvailable around the clock
VisitingScheduled in advance; days and times set by the Sheriff's Department
Typical release processingHours after a bond is accepted, depending on intake volume
Midnight Bail BondsOpen 24 hours, every day

Visiting is scheduled and limited. Bail posting is not scheduled at all — a bond written at 4 a.m. is accepted the same as one written midday.

Factor the drive into the plan. Castaic is well north of most of the county, and a release that clears at midnight still means a freeway run for whoever is picking up.

If the defendant is still at the arresting Sheriff's station, posting there is usually faster than waiting for the transfer north.

Court hours and jail hours are unrelated. The Santa Clarita and Antelope Valley courtrooms keep weekday calendars; this facility accepts bonds around the clock.

Booking & Custody Process

How a North County arrest becomes a Castaic custody record.

01

Arrest & Station Booking

A Sheriff's station in the northern county books the defendant first. Records and identity checks have to clear before any bond can post.

02

Bail Set At The County Schedule

The amount comes from the Los Angeles County bail schedule at booking, the same figures used countywide. It is postable immediately.

03

Transfer To Pitchess

If bail is not posted at the station, custody moves to the Castaic complex rather than downtown for most North County bookings.

04

Intake & Housing

Processing and classification run on site. A booking still in intake cannot be released, which is why current status matters more than the address alone.

05

Court Transport

Defendants are transported to the assigned courthouse — Valencia or Lancaster in most North County cases — and returned afterward.

06

Release

Once the bond is accepted and processing clears, the facility runs its own discharge queue. Expect hours, not minutes.

How To Post Bail At Pitchess

Premium on a California bail bond is set by the rate filed with the Department of Insurance under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, the starting figure comes from the Los Angeles Superior Court bail schedule, and review or reduction runs under Penal Code §1270.1.

Bail on a North County arrest is set at booking under the county schedule, so a bond posts at Pitchess without waiting for a courtroom to open.

Posting before the transfer keeps the release at the Sheriff's station and saves the drive to Castaic entirely. Once the transfer runs, the release happens up the 5.

Arraignment is the first judicial review of the amount — the judge can keep, raise, or reduce it, or grant own-recognizance release, and bail can be revisited later in the case.

Give us a full legal name and date of birth. We confirm the current facility, verify the amount, and post at any hour. 10% premium, 1% down on approved credit.

If A Court Date Is Missed After Release

A bond written at Pitchess Detention Center stays live through every appearance until the case resolves. A missed date can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day, with a limited statutory window to bring the defendant back before the forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner.
