Facility Overview

The Montebello Jail operates inside the Montebello Police Department at 1600 West Beverly Boulevard, in the civic center between the 60 and the 5 on the eastern edge of the county's urban core.

It books and briefly holds arrests made by Montebello officers — identification, prints, warrant checks, and a bed for the hours before either a bail release or a transfer into Los Angeles County custody.

On the court side we will not overstate what we know. Montebello sits in a stretch of the county where the district's calendars overlap, and bookings from here are commonly heard at the East Los Angeles Courthouse — but the assignment can vary with the charge and the filing. The release paperwork is authoritative; a website is not.

No case is heard at the jail address, and no bail is accepted at a court counter. The bond goes to the facility physically holding the defendant.

Hours & Visiting

Visiting runs on a scheduled, restricted calendar. Bail posting at Montebello Jail does not — a bond can be accepted at any hour of any day.

Bail bonds accepted24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Police department front counterStaffed around the clock for custody inquiries
Booking to bailableCommonly a few hours once records checks clear
Typical local releaseOften within a couple of hours of the bond being accepted
Midnight Bail BondsOpen 24 hours, every day

Court hours and jail hours are separate systems. Courthouses keep weekday business hours; a bond is accepted here overnight and on holidays.

Booking must clear before anything posts. That is the usual reason a family is asked to wait after an arrest.

Transfers run on the Sheriff's schedule, not on request. Once one leaves, the release point moves downtown.

Confirm the assigned courthouse from the paperwork rather than assuming the nearest building.

02

Booking & Records Checks

03

Without a bond, custody passes to the Sheriff's Department: men to the Inmate Reception Center downtown, women to Century Regional in Lynwood.

06

Release Or Court Transport

A bailed defendant leaves with a court date on the release paperwork. A defendant still in custody is bused to the assigned courthouse and returned afterward.

How To Post Bail At Montebello Jail

Premium on a California bail bond is set by the rate filed with the Department of Insurance under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, the starting figure comes from the Los Angeles Superior Court bail schedule, and review or reduction runs under Penal Code §1270.1.

Bail on a Montebello arrest is set at booking under the county schedule. No hearing is required and no courtroom has to be open — which is useful, because the court assignment is often the last thing a family learns.

Where the bond lands decides the wait. Posted here it is a quick local release; posted after the transfer it runs through the downtown discharge process instead.

Arraignment is the first judicial review of the amount — it can be kept, raised, reduced, or replaced with own-recognizance release, and either side can move to revisit bail later.

Call with a full legal name and date of birth. We confirm the booking and facility, verify the amount, and post at any hour — 10% premium, 1% down on approved credit.

If A Court Date Is Missed After Release

A bond written at Montebello Jail stays live through every appearance until the case resolves. A missed date can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day, with a limited statutory window to bring the defendant back before the forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner.
