Facility Overview

The El Monte Jail operates inside the El Monte Police Department at 11333 Valley Boulevard, in the civic center at the geographic middle of the San Gabriel Valley.

It books and briefly holds arrests made by El Monte officers — identification, prints, warrant checks, and a bed for the hours before either a bail release or a transfer into Los Angeles County custody.

The jail and the courthouse share a street here, and the two addresses are close enough that people mix them up. They are separate buildings with separate functions: the police department books and holds, the courthouse hears. A bond is posted at the first.

El Monte's courthouse also serves Baldwin Park, Covina, and Azusa, so this stretch of Valley Boulevard is the court destination for a good part of the surrounding valley — not only for arrests made in this city.

Hours & Visiting

Visiting runs on a scheduled, restricted calendar. Bail posting at El Monte Jail does not — a bond can be accepted at any hour of any day.

Bail bonds accepted24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Police department front counterStaffed around the clock for custody inquiries
Booking to bailableCommonly a few hours once records checks clear
Typical local releaseOften within a couple of hours of the bond being accepted
Midnight Bail BondsOpen 24 hours, every day

Court hours and jail hours are separate systems. The courthouse down the street keeps weekday business hours; a bond is accepted here overnight and on holidays.

Booking must clear before anything posts. That is the usual reason a family is asked to wait after an arrest.

Transfers run on the Sheriff's schedule. Once one leaves, the release point moves downtown.

Confirm the current facility before driving — the short local trip only works before the transfer.

Booking & Custody Process

From an El Monte arrest to a release on Valley Boulevard.

01

Arrest By El Monte PD

The arrestee is transported to the police department at 11333 Valley Blvd, where city custody and booking begin.

02

Booking & Records Checks

Photograph, fingerprints, identification, and warrant checks must clear before a bond can be accepted.

03

Bail Set From The County Schedule

The amount comes from the Los Angeles County bail schedule for the booked charge and is postable right away.

04

Local Posting Window

Posting while El Monte PD holds custody produces a release from this building, typically the same night.

05

County Transfer

Without a bond, custody passes to the Sheriff's Department: men to the Inmate Reception Center downtown, women to Century Regional in Lynwood.

06

Release Or Court Transport

A bailed defendant leaves with a court date. A defendant still in custody is transported the short distance to the courthouse and returned afterward.

How To Post Bail At El Monte Jail

Premium on a California bail bond is set by the rate filed with the Department of Insurance under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, the starting figure comes from the Los Angeles Superior Court bail schedule, and review or reduction runs under Penal Code §1270.1.

Bail on an El Monte arrest is set at booking under the county schedule. No hearing is required and no courtroom has to be open.

Posting here keeps the release on Valley Boulevard. Posting after the transfer means a downtown discharge measured in hours, twenty miles west.

Arraignment is the first judicial review of the amount — it can be kept, raised, reduced, or replaced with own-recognizance release, and either side can move to revisit bail later.

Call with a full legal name and date of birth. We confirm the booking and facility, verify the amount, and post at any hour — 10% premium, 1% down on approved credit.

If A Court Date Is Missed After Release

A bond written at El Monte Jail stays live through every appearance until the case resolves. A missed date can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day, with a limited statutory window to bring the defendant back before the forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner.
