Courthouse Overview

The West Covina Courthouse stands at 1427 West Covina Parkway, in the civic core just off the 10 freeway. It is one of the East District's working courthouses and handles the middle stretch of the San Gabriel Valley — the corridor between the El Monte courthouse to the west and Pomona to the east.

Its calendars are built out of everyday local case volume: arrests made by the police departments serving the surrounding cities, plus matters from nearby unincorporated county areas. This is a regional courthouse in the practical sense, keeping routine appearances close to home rather than sending Valley residents downtown.

The single most common mistake families make in this part of the county is showing up at the wrong San Gabriel Valley courthouse. Three buildings sit within a short drive of one another and their names are easy to blur on a notice. Read the courthouse name and department number printed on the paperwork — the arresting agency does not determine the building.

No one is held here overnight, and the courthouse takes no bail money. In-custody defendants are transported in for their appearance and returned to the holding facility afterward, which is why the bond that actually gets someone out is delivered to the jail, not to the court.

Hours Of Operation

Court hours and jail release timing are two different clocks. West Covina Courthouse runs on a weekday court calendar; the jail holding your family member runs 24 hours a day.

Midnight Bail BondsOpen 24 hours, every day

Court hours and jail hours are not the same thing. The courthouse closes at 4:30 p.m. and stays closed on weekends and holidays; the jails holding a West Covina defendant take bail bonds around the clock.

With bail already set at the schedule amount, posting never waits for a courtroom. The bond goes to whichever facility currently holds the defendant.

Release timing follows the facility, not the case. City jail releases can move in a couple of hours; once someone has been booked into the Inmate Reception Center downtown, processing commonly runs several hours and longer overnight.

Departments recess midday, so a matter not reached before noon typically waits for the 1:30 p.m. session. Plan a half day for any appearance here.

Parking And Directions

West Covina Courthouse offers free parking, but with a four-hour cap that matters on long calendar days.

Free Four-Hour Parking

Free parking is available in designated areas with a four-hour limit. If your calendar runs into the afternoon session, plan to move the vehicle before the limit expires.

Security Screening

All visitors pass through screening at the entrance. Weapons, recording devices, and cameras are prohibited without prior authorization. Add 20–30 minutes for the entry line on a busy morning calendar.

Departments & Case Types

West Covina carries the mid-Valley calendars for the East District.

01

Criminal Calendars

Criminal matters from arrests in the surrounding communities are calendared here — arraignments, pretrial conferences, motions, and resolution. The department number on the notice controls the courtroom.

02

Traffic Matters

Traffic citations from the area are handled on their own calendars, which run separately from the criminal departments even inside the same building.

03

Civil & Small Claims

Civil matters including small claims are heard at this courthouse, giving mid-Valley residents and businesses a local venue rather than a downtown filing.

04

In-Custody Appearances

Defendants who have not bailed out are transported in and returned afterward. Appearing in court starts no release process on its own.

05

Not Heard Here

No bail is taken at the courthouse counter. Downtown in-custody first appearances happen at Central Arraignment Courthouse, and the county's main criminal trial calendars sit at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

How To Post Bail At West Covina Courthouse

Bail review and reduction motions in California run under Penal Code §1270.1, and the starting figure comes from the Los Angeles Superior Court bail schedule.

Bail on a West Covina arrest is set administratively at booking under the Los Angeles County bail schedule. That amount is postable immediately, which is why most defendants never spend a night waiting for court to open.

Arraignment in the assigned department here is the first judicial review of that number. The judge can keep it, raise it, reduce it, or grant own-recognizance release, and either side can move to change bail later under the hearing rules cited above.

Because the case runs on this courthouse's calendar through resolution, the bond stays live across every setting. Missing a routine pretrial date — not just a trial date — is what puts the bond and the cosigner at risk.

We post at the facility actually holding the defendant, city or county, at any hour. Give us the full legal name and date of birth and we locate the booking, confirm the bail amount, and quote the premium before you commit.

If A Court Date Here Is Missed

A missed appearance at West Covina Courthouse can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day. There is a statutory window to bring the defendant back before forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner — call us immediately. Failure to appear bail bonds →
