The Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse stands at 275 Magnolia Avenue in downtown Long Beach. It is the newest courthouse in Los Angeles County: a $340-million facility that opened in 2013, built roughly 65 percent larger than the Long Beach courthouse it replaced.
The building it replaced stood one block away at 415 West Ocean Boulevard. That structure was vacated when operations moved to Magnolia Avenue and was demolished in 2016. This matters practically, not just historically — old notices, stale search results, and saved navigation pins still send people to an address where there is no longer a courthouse standing. If your paperwork simply says "Long Beach," Magnolia Avenue is the place.
The scale of the replacement reflects what the old courthouse could no longer hold. Long Beach is one of the largest cities in California, and the South District workload it generates — criminal, civil, and general calendars — needed a purpose-built modern facility rather than a mid-century building running past capacity.
What the new building does not change is the basic separation between court and custody. No one is held here overnight and no bail money is taken at the counter. In-custody defendants are transported in for the appearance and returned afterward, and the bond that produces a release goes to the jail holding them — usually the Long Beach City Jail before any county transfer.

Court hours and jail release timing are two different clocks. Deukmejian Courthouse runs on a weekday court calendar; the jail holding your family member runs 24 hours a day.
| Courthouse building | Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. |
|---|---|
| Clerk's office | Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. |
| Typical courtroom sessions | 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. |
| Saturday, Sunday & court holidays | Closed |
| Midnight Bail Bonds | Open 24 hours, every day |
Court hours and jail release hours are separate systems. The courthouse keeps weekday business hours; the Long Beach City Jail and the county facilities accept bail bonds at any hour, weekends and holidays included.
With bail already set at the schedule amount, posting never waits for a courtroom to open. The bond goes to whichever facility currently holds the defendant.
Release timing follows the facility. A city jail release in Long Beach can move in a couple of hours; the Inmate Reception Center downtown commonly runs several hours and stretches longer overnight.
Departments recess midday. A matter not reached before noon typically waits for the 1:30 p.m. session, so plan a half day for an appearance here.

The Long Beach courthouse has a dedicated paid structure directly across from the building.
A paid parking structure is located at 101 S Magnolia Ave, adjacent to the courthouse on Magnolia Avenue.
All visitors pass through screening at the entrance. Weapons, recording devices, and cameras are prohibited without prior authorization. Add 20–30 minutes for the entry line on a busy morning calendar.
Deukmejian carries the South District's principal calendars from a single modern building.
Criminal matters arising from Long Beach-area arrests are calendared here — arraignments, pretrial conferences, motions, and case resolution. The department number on the notice controls the courtroom and session time.
The consolidated design of the 2013 building allowed civil and general jurisdiction work to sit alongside the criminal calendars rather than being split between locations.
Traffic citations issued in the area are heard on their own calendars, which run separately from the criminal departments even inside the same building.
Defendants who have not bailed out are transported in for the appearance and returned to the holding facility afterward. Being produced in court begins no release process by itself.
No bail is accepted at the counter. Downtown in-custody first appearances happen at Central Arraignment Courthouse, and the county's main criminal trial calendars sit at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
Bail review and reduction motions in California run under Penal Code §1270.1, and the starting figure comes from the Los Angeles Superior Court bail schedule.
Bail on a Long Beach arrest is set at booking under the Los Angeles County bail schedule, before anyone appears on Magnolia Avenue. That amount can be posted immediately at the jail holding the defendant.
Arraignment in the assigned department here is the first judicial review of that number. The judge can keep it, raise it, reduce it, or grant own-recognizance release, and either side can move to change bail later under the hearing rules cited above.
Posting before the county transfer is the practical priority. A bond at the Long Beach City Jail produces a release locally; once the transfer runs, the release happens downtown after a much longer intake.
Because the case stays on this courthouse's calendar through resolution, the bond remains live at every setting. Give us a full legal name and date of birth and we locate the booking, confirm the amount, and post at any hour.
A missed appearance at Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day. There is a statutory window to bring the defendant back before forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner — call us immediately. Failure to appear bail bonds →
Long Beach arrests are held at the city jail first and move into the county system if bail is not posted.
